Long-range SAR operations field training exercise
4-day Grand Island Ski and Sledge
Trip
SAR op training results:
The 9-person team completed 4-day, SAR ice-training operation on Grand Island Harbor and Grand Island in Lake Superior, off Munising, Michigan, on March 5-8, 2010.
Nine skiers pulling cargo sledges covered about 28 miles, including about 5 miles on the ice of Lake Superior.

Residence: Ishpeming, MichiganRobert Dusseau was robbed and fatally shot at the Quik Cash and Guns store on U.S. Highway 41 West in Marquette Township on February 23, 2010. His vehicle as well as a quantity of cash, long gun, hand gun, and Swann DVR recorder with an 8-inch monitor were taken.
Missing at first, his body later found buried in a snowbank; his vehicle was recovered in the Birchwood Apartments' parking lot in Marquette Township.

Long-range SAR operations field training exercise
4-day Pigeon River Country State
Forest Backpacking Trip
SAR op training results:
MiBSAR completed 4-day, SAR training operation in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan's Pigeon River Country State Forest.
While the 9-person group was greeted by sub-freezing temps the first couple nights, and snow the first day, sun screen and shorts were in order soon thereafter.
Two trekkers spotted 31 elk on the back roads prior to starting the trip, and one team of hikers came across a recently-passed coyote along the bank of a river.

Long-range SAR operations endurance training exercise
26.2-mile (43.7-km) Navarino Trail
Marathon
Complete 26.2-mile Navarino Trail Marathon sponsored by Great Lakes Endurance.
SAR op training results:
The event used many of the double-track trails in the multi-use Navarino Wildlife Area. Race headquarters was the Navarino Nature Center.
Team MiBSAR successfully completed this event in 4 hours and 33 minutes, finishing 25th out of 49 runners.

SAR op results: Penetrated Black Creek Swamp from M-123, searched several pine-studded ridges, worked winter snowmobile trail and adjacent ridges from last location original SAR team spotted Chris' snowshoes tracks, south to Tahqua Trail along north bank of Tahquamenon River. No sign of Chris or one of his encampments was found.
At least one more search of the swamp will be conducted to check an abandoned, north-south-running snowmobile trail, an old, overgrown, east-west-running winter logging road, and a ridge abutting the western limit of this expansive swamp and marsh.
